Do you know wat this is? This is the opening page of the Book of Kells that is, from today… drum roll… Free to view online thanks to Dublin's Trinity College.
As part of the general celebration of St Patrick's Day at Trinity, we would like to announce that the Book of Kells in its entirety is now viewable in the Library's new Digital Collections online repository, provided by the Library's Digital Resources and Imaging Services.
How cool is that?

as i'm still ill, and bored of makin pictures of my bed, i started watching films.
The Devils by Ken Russel is one of my all time favourites. it's one of those films that tries to speak about everything in our life - and it not fails. this piece of art makes it - it's about love, politics, religion, beauty, horror, power and our weakness, the importance to be aware of our unimportance, terror and freedom etc. about the whole cosmos as we know it. sometimes makes us laugh (it has to, because it's a satire) but it shocks us for sure. the director's cut is the most shocking version of this film, which is still unavailable officially. i've never seen it - and i don't think i have to, because the shorter version is thrils you enough.
The Devils has the most cathartic end scene which I ever saw, with the picture of a demolished wall and an endless road with hanging, tortured bodies on it's side. it's a terrible view but tells so much when you watch the film.
the sets were designed by the great Derek Jarman - astonishing work, mostly because he almost built a small city in a simple but period-true style (of course it's full of symbols). the story happens in the XVII. century, but Russel's directing is reflecting on it's own era - for example Father Barre (Michael Gothard), the exorcist acts like a rock star in the whole movie; he's wearing sun glasses and very cool gloves and always makes a show, and Father Grandier (played by the fabulous Oliver Reed) dies the way as the protesting buddhist priests during the Vietnam war.
Russel's work is a great inspiration for me. he was a great artist, we should care more about his legacy.

szóval a nirvana egyike azon zenekaroknak, akiket sosem fogok megutálni. nem mondom rájuk, hogy túl öreg vagyok hozzá,ó ez mennyivel jobb volt régen, nem unom meg a dalokat (legalábbis nem végleg - csak ha túladagolom, akkor esetleg pihentetem, ha kell pár évet), nem jövök rá, hogy ez csak valaminek a nyúlása és az eredeti mennyivel jobb blablabla. rajtuk kívül még az ATDI-val, meg a kOroggal (na jó esetleg a Melvins-vel) vagyok úgy, hogy bármikor, bármekkora mennyiségben képes vagyok befogadni lényegében akármelyik korszakukat.
az in utero mégis kiemelkedő számomra (pedig a kurt-éknek van jó pár kurva jó kiadatlan daluk, amik csokorba szedve simán lekörözik az unalomig ismételt szerzeményeiket) és teljesen külön kezelem. talán azért mert remekül összegzi azt, ami ez a banda volt, és azt, ahová a színtér ahonnan kinőttek a kilencvenes évek közepére eljutott. ez a lemez a grunge hattyúdala (sőt ha nagyon túl akarom dimenzionálni, akkor a noise rock első (nevezzük klasszikus) korszakának is a zárlata - szerintem). ezt a korongot olyan zenészek vették fel, akik ha nem is tudták, de érezték, hogy ezután valami más lesz, hogy változni fognak a dolgok (nem - nem akarok belemagyarázni semmi olyasmit, hogy kurt tudta, hogy ki fogja nyírni magát, még akkor sem ha a lemez eredeti címe i hate myself and i want to die volt) - már bizonytalan volt amúgyis hogy meddig zenélnek még együtt. grohl is csinálni akarta a saját zenekarát, cobain-nak elege volt a sztárságból (ez a szövegeken is érződik), krist meg melankolikusan, de pontosan tolja az alapokat, miközben a régi szép napokra gondol.
a továbblépésnek ez a melankóliája, félelme van rajta egyfelől, másfelől valami nagyon kemény energia, ami egyszerre hadakozás a démonokkal, de törekvés is a bennünket körülvevő ellenség fizikai elpusztítására.
a szövegek hol nagyon költőiek (igen, a heart shaped box) hol durvák és egyszerűek (radio friendly unit shifter). a szimbólumok szintjén viszont mindegyik könnyen megfejthető. ezek a dalok viszont legalább szólnak valamiről, szemben a Nevermind sokszor ötletes, de semmit mondó darabjainál.
összegezve: egyszerre egy barátokkal töltött szomorú hétvége és egy sötét varászlatokkal teli druida szeánsz, ahol minden zenész amikor becsuk egy ajtót, kinyit egy újat.
a rituálé pont 20 éve kezdődött.

soooooooooooooo i really like this album. it has it's 20th anniversary. listen it! it's the best album of the 90's!
